API Security Testing

APIs power your mobile apps, integrations, and modern front ends — and they expose business logic directly to the internet. I assess your APIs against the OWASP API Security Top 10, with particular focus on the object- and function-level authorization flaws (BOLA/BFLA) that are the leading cause of API data breaches.

What this assessment covers

A focused, manual-led engagement scoped to your environment. Every finding is validated and documented with clear remediation guidance.

  • REST & GraphQL API assessments
  • Broken Object Level Authorization (BOLA)
  • Authentication & token security
  • Rate limiting & abuse prevention
  • Input validation & injection testing
  • Business logic security testing

Authorization

  • Broken Object Level Authorization (BOLA)
  • Broken Function Level Authorization (BFLA)
  • Mass assignment & property-level checks

Authentication & Tokens

  • JWT signing, expiry, and claim validation
  • OAuth 2.0 flow and scope review
  • API-key issuance and rotation weaknesses

Input & Injection

  • Injection via parameters and request bodies
  • GraphQL introspection, batching & depth abuse
  • Server-side request forgery (SSRF)

Resource & Logic

  • Rate limiting & resource consumption
  • Business logic and workflow abuse
  • Unsafe consumption of upstream APIs
Outcomes

What you get out of it

The point of a test isn't a long list of issues — it's a clearer, safer, more defensible product.

01

Stop data exposure at the object level

Rigorous BOLA/BFLA testing confirms that users can only access the records and functions they are entitled to.

02

Harden tokens and sessions

JWT, OAuth, and API-key handling are reviewed for weak signing, scope abuse, and improper validation.

03

Resist abuse and automation

Rate limiting, resource consumption, and anti-automation controls are tested against realistic abuse scenarios.

FAQ

Common questions

Do you need our API documentation?

Documentation (OpenAPI/Swagger, Postman collections) speeds up coverage, but I can also work from traffic captures and example requests.

Can you test GraphQL as well as REST?

Yes. GraphQL-specific testing covers introspection abuse, query batching, depth/alias amplification, and authorization at the resolver level.

How do you handle authenticated testing?

You provide test accounts at the relevant privilege levels so authorization boundaries can be verified between roles and tenants.
